Benefits and negative effect using coconut oil on skin

what are the benefits and disadvantages of using coconut oil on skin overnight?

You can leave coconut oil on your skin, but as with anything, there are both pros and cons.

First, the good stuff! Coconut oil has lots of lovely benefits. It's antibacterial and antifungal as well as being full of antioxidants. It penetrates into the skin and it's lovely and moisturising. It gets absorbed, but it can feel quite greasy. It has some nice healing properties great for minor skin abrasions or chaffing, etc.

However, coconut oil can be awful for some people. It's both comedogenic and acnegenic. This means it can clog pores and make acne worse. Anecdotally, I personally find coconut oil to be very drying to my skin. I believe this is because a better option for my skin is a lotion rather than oil. I need the hydration that doesn't come from coconut oil.

Sensitive skin types, or those who suffer with black heads or acne, are more likely to have problems with coconut oil especially on the face. As with anything, there isn't a one size fits all scenario with this or any other oil or product. Try it and see how it feels. Please disregard the answer that says there are no disadvantages to using coconut oil. There most certainly can be.

Additionally, please be aware all baking soda is aluminium free. Don't pay more for a box that states it's aluminium free. It's kind of like buying a bottle of water that says it's oil free. Well, yes, it is, but that doesn't mean a bottle of Evian water has oil in it, does it? If I buy an apple and it says it's meat-free , I won't automatically assume other apples are made from pork!
